BACKGROUND
Electrostatic spray guns are currently being used only in paint applications, using voltage to directly deliver the aerosol to the target area due to traditional atomization devices causing loss of product to the surrounding environment. This loss of product is also the case with personal spray products like perfumes, deodorants, and hair sprays, with many particle droplets not contacting the body. Additionally, medical aerosol procedures such as cryogenics, including wart removal, can target a greater surface area than medically necessary due to a lack of precise application.
SUMMARY OF TECHNOLOGY
Oklahoma State researchers have developed an innovative solution for precisely and accurately delivering personal spray products to the human body using an established DC electrical field. A metallic nozzle replaces any product’s traditional plastic lid with a metal ring that establishes an electrical field with the target ring placed on the desired area to guide mist droplets to the area of interest. This approach reduces product loss and increases the delivery efficiency of aerosol products from personal hygiene products like perfumes and hairsprays regardless of container composition, to medical procedures such as targeted cryotherapy.
